Louisiana Family Portraits in Kisatchie National Forest

Kisatchie National Forest – The Longleaf Vista between Alexandria and Natchitoches is one of our favorite areas in Louisiana.  The terrain is very unique for Louisiana, with limestone rock formations, beautiful forests trails, a small cave opening, and a rocky bottom stream that often has a few small waterfalls.  We want to take you and your family (or you and your love) on a  family photo adventure to create amazing portraits of you in the majesty of Kisatchie.

Together, we’ll explore

  • Tiger Valley (a rocky area that is often filled with purple and gold flowers!  This is where the featured image above was taken)
  • Mount Kisatchie (Ok- it’s not really a mountain, but this is an adventure and we can call it that.  This rocky climb rewards trekkers with a wide open view of the forest, as a few small cliffs for the really adventurous)
  • The Fairy Cave  (Some call it the wolf cave, but we’ve found that kids prefer fairies over wolves)
  • Forest River (The sweet girl in the above image gave Bayou Kisatchie this new name.  It’s full of rocks, small waterfalls, and private white sand beaches!  The perfect spot for family portraits)

We will bring an ice chest full of waters, juices, and snacks.  All locations are within a few minute walk of the parking lot- so we won’t be stranded in the middle of nowhere without air conditioning or shelter.  If your little one needs a few minutes away from wilderness life- we certainly will understand, but we’re sure they will be having the time of their life exploring this beautiful area!

The following September weekend dates are available:

September 3rd  (7:00 am  or 5:00 pm)

September 4th (7:00 am or 5:00 pm)

September 17th (5:00 pm)

Louisiana Family Portraits in Kisatchie National Forest

Meet the Eskews.   I joined up with this beautiful family for Louisiana family portraits at Kisatchie National Forest last weekend.  We wanted to make this session about more than family portraits- we wanted to make it a family adventure.  For three hours, we explored Louisiana’s most beautiful forest!  We started in Kisatchie Hills where I introduced the kids to “Tiger Valley.”  This valley is filled with purple and gold flowers right now, hence the name!  From there, we hiked the trails around Kisatchie Hills before leaving to find the “Fairy Cave”.  Some call it the “Wolf Cave”, but Adele assured me that fairies live there, not wolves.  We didn’t see any fairies, but we are pretty sure we heard one!  After the Fairy Cave, we ventured off to Kisatchie Bayou.  Adele came up with a better name for the bayou, she preferred the name, “Forest River”.  So, we concluded our adventure exploring this mystical “Forest River”. There were waterfalls, white sand beaches, and tall bluffs to climb.  We even discovered the famous “Happy Tree!” as  you’ll see below.   We were able to get some amazing images on this adventure, but more importantly- the family created some fun new memories together which they can now relive through the prints!    Enjoy the Eskew’s Family Photo Adventure!fairy-cave family-photo-adventure family-portraits-louisiana family funny-tree JAH_1632 JAH_1740 JAH_1758 JAH_1821 JAH_1868 JAH_1930 Kisatchie-Bayou kisatchie-family kisatchie-kids kisatchie-louisiana la-family-photographer louisiana-adventure-family louisiana-adventure louisiana-children-portraits louisiana-dad louisiana-family-pics louisiana-mountain louisiana-portraits-family rocky_creek_portraits senior-session-kisatchie sisters-louisiana tiger-valley-portraits

Introducing for 2016, Editorial Portraits by Mark Eric

Louisiana Family Portraits! Yes, I am officially now offering editorial family portrait sessions!

We’ve teetered on the edge of offering Family Portraits in Louisiana for many years.   Due to my travel schedule for weddings, I’ve usually limited family portraits to 3-5 sessions per year (and those sessions were usually offered as fund raisers for various causes- just our way of giving back).    Another reason is because I wanted to develop a family portrait experience that would best serve my clients.  After much thought, and consulting with other photographers around the country-   we’ve come up with a way that we can offer family portraits that will best serve our clients.   Our goal is for our clients to use the images as wall art-  we want to fill our clients home with beautiful mounted and framed prints, gallery wrap canvases, metallic prints, and acrylic prints (depending on the style of your home).  We do not want to create images that simply get put on a disc or USB to get thrown in a drawer or closet.  Our goal is to create images that truly reflect your family, and that you can proudly display as art on your walls.

So, here’s how our sessions will work.   We will only accept two family portrait sessions per week.  I will personally come to your home before our shoot.  We will look at your wall space, and collaborate on a shoot that will help us capture and create images to best display in that space.  For example, your child’s room may beg for some creative images of your child embarking in his or her favorite hobby (my daughter will have some creative cheerleading images in her room!) Your living room may be the ideal place to hang a 30×40 gallery wrap canvas just above the fireplace, or perhaps a collage of 4 or 5 smaller framed prints would look great in the foyer.  We’ll chat about your space, your vision, and your budget to create some amazing new artwork that will be unique to you and your family.

Here’s the good news for anyone reading this blog post today (Thanksgiving).  We are offering a discount on our sitting fee- which is normally $750 if you book on Thanksgiving or Black Friday.   Book between those dates, and receive a $300 discount!

Your session will only be $450.   Please keep in mind that these sessions are designed specifically to help you decorate your home, so the average customer will end up spending around $2500 or more.  We promise to deliver a photo experience and images that you will treasure for a long time.

Ready for your $300 discount?  Click the button below to pick your date!

Of course, we couldn’t launch this exciting new product with out showing off a recent session that was done as a fundraiser for CASA.  This session was auctioned off at Rapides CASA’s recent silent auction-  and this beautiful family purchased it, donating the funds to a wonderful charity.  Thank you for donating to such a wonderful cause, I had a blast photographing this mother and son- aren’t they adorable!

5th Grade Already !!

I cannot wrap my brain around the fact that our sweet baby Merrik starts her first day of 5th grade today!   No matter how hard I try to see what I think of as what a 5th grader should look like I do not see it when I look at her .  Today as we both anxiously and excited waited in the car pool line to go to school , I held that sweet tiny baby soft hand and we said a prayer .  A prayer of protection for her school , her teachers , and friends . A prayer for her grades:) ,  but most important we prayed that she be a kind friend and a good example.  I know she is growing up , I also know that she still has baby hands and the best part of my morning was holding them this morning .  So for now 5th grade is here but she is still oh so small in my eyes.  Here is to a great year monkey .

Love Mom
