Christine and Jason’s Grand Oaks Mansion Wedding ,Part 1

Q. How did you meet and how long have you been together ?
A. Well to begin Jason and I were both born into families from a small town 10 minutes outside of New Orleans called Chalmette. We never attended the same nurseries, elementary schools, or even knew of each other; even though we did live on the same street for quite some time. Jason and I met in high school around 2000 and I realized how much we had in common. Both of our fathers had started their own business from the ground up, we both had a sibling around the same age, and both our mothers could talk the ears off anyone! My high school boyfriend and he were friends and we hung out on the weekends together. Funny tidbit: We actually rode to his Junior prom in the same limo, but of course attended with different dates. He always had the nicest family and I always had a blast each time all of us were together. By freshman year of high school, I already had a serious boyfriend and Jason eventually found a girlfriend. We double dated often and Jason was always kind hearted, compassionate, and wasn’t afraid to go against the grain. It was like he never got embarrassed. I admired his personality traits so much in high school. Eventually Jason went off to college and we didn’t see much of each other after that. Eventually I broke it off with my high school sweetheart and I was determined to find my own “Jason Burkhardt”, since I couldn’t have the real one.

Fast forward 5 years to March 5th 2011. It was the night of the Endymion Extravaganza. My friend begged me to attend. I was reluctant because I just didn’t think it would be fun and I didn’t have anything to wear. Well I was forced, so I threw on my high school prom dress and had to rush! Long story short I ran into Jason at the Extravaganza by chance. One of the quotes I live by on a daily basis is- everything happens for a reason. I know for sure all the events, heartbreaks, ups and downs, joys and sorrows in my life happened for a reason. If I would have run into Jason at any other point in my life the timing would have been all wrong for so many different reasons (just as our timing never clicked in high school or throughout college). When we ran into each other that night it was almost magical, I knew immediately the timing perfectly right. We partied as old friends would! Thinking about how much fun we had together that night still makes me fall head over heels in love with him.Q. Where did you go on your first date?

Q. Where did you go on your first date?
A. The one and only …. Lager’s

Q. Tell us about the proposal. We want all the details!
A. Jason planned what I thought was a fun filled comedy weekend. We had purchased tickets to the Lisa Lampanelli comedy show on November 10th, 2012. We got ready to leave and he mentioned that we had to go pick up a couple of friends from a downtown hotel. They had gotten a room since they are from out of town. We arrive at the hotel and valet “to have a couple drinks at the bar”, We go up the elevator and down the hall. Jason then whips out a room key. As gullible as I am, said “Hey where’d you get that”? He mentions something about stopping by the hotel earlier to meet up with Joe and Stacey and they gave him the extra key for us to meet up with them.

When I enter the suite its decorated with the most beautiful bouquet of roses I’ve ever seen, champagne, bonbons and a trail of rose petals to the bed. I’m very cautious and begin to question what’s going on and why is Joe doing all this for Stacey. He says, “Go in and find her, I’m sure she is getting ready”. I begin calling their names and with no responses, all at once everything hits me. I turn around to find Jason on bended knee asking for my hand in marriage. I, of course, said yes! But then the best part of the whole story comes next!

Besides the fact that I was in shock for approximately 30 minutes, I was also dissapointed we weren’t actually going to see Lisa Lampanelli and had wasted our tickets. Jason had assured me we were going to a romantic dinner, just us two, to celebrate the occasion.

We crossed Canal Street to head to the restaurant, walk into the lobby of the 2nd hotel of the evening, climb the stairs to the top, and at the entrance to the restaurant are every single one of our closest friends and family who cheered & congratulated us as soon as we approached. I was definitely in complete and utter shock at this point and couldn’t believe that Jason had planned all of this for me!

I’m sure it was hard work and I don’t know how he did it but it’s definitely a night I will never forget and can’t wait to tell our future children about.
